Choose Your Own MONSTER Adventure – Lockdown Scavenger Hunt inspired by The Gruffalo

Is there a character more endearing than the mouse in The Gruffalo? Clear underdog. Quick witted. And cute to boot! Huge fan here! I’m sure I’m not alone on this. And then when we meet The Gruffalo, he’s kinda sweet in his own way too.

So this week, what better book to build a scavenger hunt around, than The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson? For this scavenger hunt, you’ll collect monster body parts on your walk… and when you get home, you can assemble your very own monster.

But wait… there’s more! Parents… do you remember the Choose Your Own Adventure books. I can tell you that I do! I loved knowing that I was in control of where the story went… well a little bit anyway. And then I could read and re-read until I thought I’d covered all possible alternatives.

Where am I going with this? This is a choose your own adventure scavenger hunt. Do you want to make a Tough-alo? Or a monster who loves to lift weights – a Buff-alo? What about if you’re being community minded, and picking up rubbish on your walk? I sometimes do this when I walk on the beach. If this is you, why not make a Stuff-alo? Or the cutest monster on the block – a Fluffalo!

How does it work?

  1. Sign up and I’ll send you a PDF file with the scavenger hunt items.
  2. Print it! Or just look at it on your phone.
  3. Step outside and collect the items on the list.
  4. When you get home assemble your monster.
  5. And don’t forget to flip through your bookshelf and read The Gruffalo one more time.

If you don’t have a copy of this classic, call your local independent bookstore. You know every bookshelf needs a copy of this book.
